Small Corrosive Storage Cabinets: Compare Sizes and Door Types
A small corrosive cabinet should accommodate your chemical containers, secondary containment, and required access space. Compare SAI-U’s 4-gallon and 12-gallon models below, with manual-closing and self-closing door options.
Choose the cabinet size using your largest container dimensions and maximum planned inventory. Allow for shelf clearance, spill trays, and door opening space. Confirm the required door-closing arrangement against your project specifications and local requirements before ordering.
Cabinet Materials and Chemical Compatibility
Material compatibility is a key part of selecting a corrosive safety cabinet. Review the cabinet body, surface finish, shelving, and containment accessories against the chemicals being stored, including their concentration and storage temperature.
SC0004B provides an example of the construction used within the blue cabinet range. Confirm the detailed material specification and supplied accessories for your selected model.
A powder-coated surface does not establish suitability for every acid, alkali, or solvent. Where a chemical may attack the cabinet materials, discuss an alternative construction or compatible containment arrangement before selecting the model.
Steel Corrosive Cabinets or PP Strong Corrosive Cabinets?
SAI U offers coated-steel corrosive storage cabinets and a separate range of polypropylene cabinets. The choice depends on the chemicals, their concentrations, potential vapour exposure, and the storage requirements of your facility.
Consider the blue steel range when the selected model’s coating, interior components, and containment arrangement have been confirmed as compatible with your chemicals. Compare cabinet dimensions and manual-closing or self-closing doors to match the installation.
For applications requiring a non-metallic cabinet body, explore SAI-U’s Strong Corrosive Chemical Storage Cabinets. For example, SCP0045 uses 8 mm polypropylene panels and adjustable PP shelves, with an optional spill tray.
PP compatibility must also be checked against the specific chemical, concentration, and temperature. The “strong corrosive” designation does not establish suitability for every aggressive chemical or demonstrate a fire-resistance rating.

Selecting Storage for Corrosive and Flammable Chemicals
Corrosive and flammable liquid storage requirements address different hazards. Some chemicals present both, so cabinet selection must consider the complete hazard profile stated in the Safety Data Sheet.
For corrosive chemicals, confirm compatibility with the cabinet surfaces, containers, and spill-containment materials. Segregate acids from bases, and keep oxidizing acids separate from incompatible organic materials and flammable substances. Chemicals sharing an “acid” or “corrosive” label may still require separate storage.
For chemicals that are both corrosive and flammable, select equipment with documented suitability for the applicable fire-safety requirements and verified chemical compatibility. A corrosion-resistant cabinet should not be assumed to provide the fire protection required for flammable liquids.
Review SAI-U’s flammable storage cabinets where flammability is a key storage requirement, and discuss any additional corrosion-resistance needs. Your site safety team should confirm the final segregation plan, permitted inventory, and installation conditions.
Keep containers closed and clearly labelled. Check SDS Sections 7 and 10 for storage conditions and incompatibilities, and specify any required ventilation or temperature controls separately.
Where Should A Corrosive Storage Cabinet Be Placed
Corrosive storage cabinets should be strategically placed in designated chemical storage areas, ensuring that they are located away from office spaces, living areas, and any high-traffic zones to minimize the risk of exposure to harmful substances. Ideally, the placement of an acid cabinet should be in an isolated and secure location, dedicated solely to storing hazardous chemicals. This ensures that accidental spills or leaks do not pose a threat to people in the surrounding environment.
The storage area where the corrosive chemical storage cabinets is positioned must be kept dry and well-ventilated. Proper ventilation helps to dissipate any fumes or vapors that may be released from the chemicals inside the acid storage cabinet, further enhancing safety. Additionally, it's crucial to control the temperature and humidity in the storage space during corrosive chemical storage to prevent chemical reactions that could be triggered by environmental changes.
